Broadacres is committed to supporting the communities in which we have homes, and we do this in various ways, including providing financial support to local organisations and groups.
Our Community Development Fund awards grants of up to £500 to projects which benefit our customers and the wider community that they live in.
This includes projects that that help make communities a safer place, those that improve the environment and projects that tackle health and wellbeing issues.
In 2022/23, grants have been approved, by the Association’s own resident-led Community Development Fund Panel, for a variety of projects, including:
- Huby Bowling Club, which received funds to put towards improving facilities for future generations
- Catterick Touch Rugby, which was given a grant to buy new strips for its junior players
- Northallerton LGBT Social, a support group for all members of the LGBT community in the town and wider communities of Stokesley, Thirsk and Richmond, received £450 to cover their running costs for a year.
- TEES, a charity which tackles hardship on Teesside, was successful in its application for funding to address period poverty.
In addition to the Community Development Fund, we also introduced a Sustainability Fund in 2022. This provides funding of up to £500 (£1,000 in exceptional cases) for local projects which protect or create areas for wildlife, involve tree planting, encourage or enable people in the community to grow their own fruit and/or vegetables, or protect or create an outdoor space for local communities to enjoy.
Among the first to benefit are:
- Happy Hedgehog Rescue, which received funding towards a purpose-built wooden shed to function as a hospital and rehab centre for hedgehogs at Ramsgill in Nidderdale
- Whitley Allotment Association, which was successful in its application to buy new gardening equipment for an allotment in the village, near Selby.
- Reeth Community Orchard Garden, which received money to support a thriving community garden which features a wildflower meadow, perennial border and apple orchard.
