Visitors to Northallerton Carnival won’t be caught short in 2025 thanks to a Broadacres grant.

A £450 grant from our Community Development Fund will help to ensure the show goes on next year by providing the portable toilets so visitors don’t have to leave the Applegarth site to spend a penny.

Behind the annual event, which had to be cancelled this year due to bad weather, is the Carnival Committee of just four people that provides the organisation, insurance, first aid, toilet provision and other planning and support that is so essential for such community events.

“Toilets are essential for any large public event of this nature and to know the cost is covered by this generous grant means that’s one less thing to have to worry about next year,” said Carnival Chair Andrea Crowe.

The free to enter Carnival features over 20 stalls showcasing local arts and crafts, food and drink. There are also fairground rides, a fun run and lots of free activities for children. In the main arena the free entertainment visitors have enjoyed in recent years has ranged from a wild west show, motorbike skills, dog show and performances by local musicians and dance troupes.

“Many people are suffering hardship at the moment so it’s very important to put on events like this that raise a smile and offer affordable entertainment for families,” said Andrea.

“I think it really showcases the best of what Northallerton has to offer.”

The Broadacres Community Development Fund supports local organisations, groups, and projects in areas where Broadacres has homes. All grants are approved by the Association’s own residents via a voting scheme using tokens similar to how Tesco award grants in its stores.
