Five people recently started Apprenticeships with Broadacres as part of our commitment to providing training and employment opportunities for people living in our communities.
The new apprentices are Sam Stalley (IT), Trish Ridsdale (Support Services) & Angel Warbrook (Heating) and Tom Johnson and Josh Nichol (both Joinery).
They take the number of apprentices at Broadacres to 16.
We were inundated with almost 200 applications, with those shortlisted invited to formal interviews and more creative assessment centres where they were put through their paces in exercises such as breaking out of an escape room and designing their own desert island.
A range of colleagues across Broadacres helped us choose the new intake with the number of volunteers a testament to how passionate Broadacres colleagues are about our apprentices.
Our apprenticeships offer a great route to new careers, over the years supporting 40 apprentices in roles such as electrical, sustainability, communications, housing management, technical construction and more.
The scheme has grown and been a great success. We are proud to say that over half apprentices from previous intakes have gone on to gain permanent roles with Broadacres after successfully completing their apprenticeship.
Our Apprentices get great support during their time with us including opportunities to get together to develop key work skills and take part in volunteering projects, for example, this year they spent a day at one of our extra care schemes to improve the gardens.
Our ambitions is to grow our apprenticeship numbers to 5% of the total workforce, so watch this space!
