Broadacres continues to make great strides towards meeting its net zero targets with a range of work being undertaken to improve the energy efficiency of its homes, both old and new.

For some time now, we have only been installing air source heat pumps (ASHP) in our new build homes as standard, and in total more than 800 homes are now heated via this form of renewable technology.

With several large schemes either nearing completion or well underway, this figure will soon rise to around 1,000 new build homes being heated via ASHPs, for example 49 homes in Sedbergh, Cumbria, and 88 homes in Aiskew, near Bedale.

Under the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) we have now completed work on 206 existing homes, having installed solar panels on 206 homes; ASHPs in 17 homes; loft insulation in 74 homes; underfloor insulation in 8 homes and smart air bricks in 7 homes. Work will continue on this programme until March 2025.

Our target is to ensure that all homes have an energy efficiency rating (Energy Performance Certificate) of C or above by 2028 and these are determined by a Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) score.

Since March 2023, we have improved the energy efficiency of 345 homes, moving them from below SAP 69 to above SAP 69. Currently, the number of homes with a SAP score of less than 69 is only 1,159, meaning that 83% of our homes are EPC band C or above, so we are well on the way towards meeting our 2028 target.

Broadacres is committed to becoming a Net Zero organisation across all its operations by 2050 and we are constantly looking at ways to further accelerate our programme.
