Following a series of floods and near misses, in 2019 Broadacres reluctantly took the decision to stop renting out homes at Gillings Court sheltered housing scheme in Thirsk.

Due to the age, design and condition of the building, along with the threat of further floods, it had become impossible to improve the quality of the homes to a standard that our customers deserved.

Since 2019, we have kept in regular contact with residents to understand and respect their wishes and to help them stay in their homes for as long as possible.

Earlier this year the number of remaining residents fell below a level that we and the residents were happy with, so in July we made the difficult decision to close the scheme.

We have worked sensitively with our customers, their families and support networks and we are pleased to say all residents have safely moved into new homes.

The building is now empty and has been secured while we consider its future, with a particular emphasis on securing its previous use as retirement living accommodation.

We will provide further updates as soon as we know we have any information.
