People living in a North Yorkshire coastal village are being encouraged to give their views on a proposed new affordable led housing scheme.

Broadacres Housing Association is proposing to build 15 new homes on land already allocated for housing on Sands Lane, Hunmanby, near Scarborough

And the Association is holding a community consultation event in the village on Tuesday 31st January so local people can come and discover more about the plans.

Broadacres is planning to build seven two-bedroom homes for rent; seven three-bedroom homes for shared ownership and one two-bedroom home for shared ownership.

The homes for rent will be much lower than privately rented homes in the area and the shared ownership properties are designed to give people the chance to get on the property ladder who would otherwise be priced out of buying.

Broadacres intend to market the properties locally so people with a connection to Hunmanby and the surrounding area have the opportunity to occupy the properties.

And as part of the Association’s sustainability strategy, all the homes will be fitted with air source heat pumps, a renewable form of energy which extracts heat from the air to heat homes.

Fiona Coleman, the Broadacres’ Development Manager who will be at the community consultation, said: “Ahead of a full planning application being submitted to Scarborough Borough Council, we would very much welcome feedback from people living in Hunmanby.

“The community consultation will give people the opportunity to view our plans and ask any questions about the development.

“There is an identified need for affordable housing for local people in Hunmanby so we believe we have devised a scheme which will help meet this need

“As the only housing association headquartered in North Yorkshire, we are committed to making our rural communities sustainable for future generations and this is a great example of how we are trying to achieve this.”

The consultation will take place in Hunmanby Community Centre at 35 Stonegate, between 3:30 pm and 7pm for the public.
