Community information event

People interested in affordable homes being built in a Cumbrian market town are being invited to a community information event later this month.

Broadacres is holding a drop-in event in Sedbergh People’s Hall in Howgill Lane on Wednesday 28th June between 3pm and 7pm.

It will provide an opportunity for local people to find out more about the 49-home scheme which is being built on land at Station Road, on the western outskirts of Sedbergh.

Whilst no properties will be allocated at the event, it will enable people to view the different house types on this multi-tenure development, with a view to then registering their interest when the homes are allocated.

Broadacres, with its contractor EQUANS, is building a mixture of mix of two and three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows, as well as three four-bedroom and one five-bedroom home.

Of the 49 homes built, 34 will be for affordable rent and shared ownership, with people in Sedbergh and the surrounding communities being given first refusal on these properties. The affordable homes will be manged on Broadacres behalf by South Lakes Housing.

The remaining 15 homes will be offered for open market sale, which means the percentage of affordable homes on the site will be 69%.

Helen Fielding, Director – Development and Investment for Broadacres, said: “We are on track to complete the first phase of homes later in the year, with completion of the entire scheme by spring 2024.

“The majority of homes will be offered to local people as part of our strategy to ensure rural communities like Sedbergh remain sustainable for future generations.

“We are therefore looking forward to welcoming people to our community information day, so they can find out more about the scheme and ask questions of our staff who will be in attendance.”

The new homes have been built to high energy efficient standards and will be heated using renewable energy, via air source heat pumps.
